Poverty reduction and Households resilience

Aquaculture plays an important role in the Kenyan economy, contributing to food production,  alternative livelihood opportunities, income generation, poverty alleviation and social development, however, despite having high potential of unlocking the malnutrition and poverty problems in the country the supply has continued  not match the  demand gap resulting in rising prices and a continuing decline in fish consumption. To help in bridging this gap, Blue Cross Nyatike in partnership with EU through KALRO AgriFi Kenya CS APP Project is collaborating with KMFRI Sagana, County of Migori and local farmers to promote Sagana Improved 8th generation Nile tilapia strain for farming through locally fabricated cages in 3 wards of Nyatike – Migori County. The project is targeting 500 farmers, 5 farmer groups and 2 hatcheries
