Aquaculture plays an important role in the Kenyan economy, contributing to food production,  alternative livelihood opportunities, income generation, poverty alleviation and social development, however, despite having high potential of unlocking the malnutrition and poverty problems in the country the supply has continued  not match the  demand gap resulting in rising prices and a continuing decline in fish consumption.
