Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

The well-being of children and families is impossible without sustainable, equitable access to clean water, dignified sanitation and appropriate hygiene behaviours. When these three factors come into play, children and their families are protected from infection, diseases and injury; living healthy lives. We believe every child deserves- and has a right to clean water. We are determined to ensure it!. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) has been and remains Bluecross’s core business. Our WASH program uses a community-based participatory approach and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) to support sustainability. The main objective is to address the inherent operational, maintenance and management challenges WASH projects have experienced due to a lack of long-term sustainability and accountability.
Over the years Bluecross’s WASH programming approach has evolved from just humanitarian intervention to a major driver and catalyst of improving households’ incomes through food production, livestock keeping and environmental hygiene. In order to increase on coverage, diversified approaches have been used including working directly with communities, institutional based WASH activities targeting public schools and health facilities, as well as through partnerships with other actors.
